Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Park.
Pick up from your hotel or airport and drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive will take 5 to 6 hours, and you will arrive in time for lunch. Masai Mara National Reserve is a pristine wilderness beauty. It promises its visitors a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life, and the opportunity to see all the members of the Big Five in one morning. The 1 800 sq kilometers of this veteran reserve offers a mix of African imagery; miles of lion-gold grasslands, shoals of lilac-misted hills, a meandering river, acres of thorn-bush, and mile upon mile of undulating wilderness. Game viewing in the Masai Mara is excellent all year round thanks to the diverse population of resident game, including the Big Five plus popular species like zebra, giraffe, hyena, eland, and gazelle. Day 2: Games drives in Masai Mara National Reserve.
You will enjoy a full day in Masai Mara National Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. Masai Mara National Reserve offers Africa’s best opportunities to see cheetahs and lions. In addition, visiting this reserve in July will allow you the best chance to watch firsthand as thousands of wildebeest migrate across the swollen crocodile-infested Mara River. This migration is one of nature’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. The sheer number of wildebeests arriving in the area is staggering. The migration is a dramatic mass movement of almost two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles in a seasonal, annual cycle driven by rainfall. November’s short rains trigger the last leg of the migration when the wildebeest move south to Serengeti. You will return to the tented camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park
Early morning breakfast, with optional Masai village visit. Then depart to Lake Nakuru National Park, with picnic lunch on the way. Arriving in the evening.
The shallow, alkaline lake is where visitors see a wide ecological diversity of habitats. These stretch from Lake Nakuru to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. The game drive is the main activity for the day.
Foragers, grazers, hunters, and scavengers all play a role in at Lake Nakuru. The park also has over 450 bird species, including flamingos. Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Amboseli National Park (via Nairobi)
After an early breakfast, you will depart for a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. One of the attractions here in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya is the number of birds to see. From Lake Nakuru National Park, you will depart to Amboseli National Park with a picnic lunch on the way there. You will arrive at Amboseli National Park in the evening for dinner and your overnight stay. You will have a spectacular view of Africa’s highest mountain at the lodge – Mount Kilimanjaro.
Day 5: Game Drives in Amboseli National Park.
Today you are treated to a full day in Amboseli National Park. Game drives will take place in the morning and afternoon, allowing you to explore the park and have magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will also see large herds of elephants, renowned for being residents of this park. Amboseli National Park is popular with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and reliably good elephant viewing. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here, ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli to wetlands with sulfur springs, the savannah, and woodlands. You can also visit the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture. Animals to be found at the park include leopard, cheetah, wild dog, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, crocodile, mongoose, hyrax, dik-dik, lesser Kudu, and the nocturnal porcupine. There is also a prolific birdlife featuring 600 species. All your meals and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 6: Amboseli National Park to Nairobi.
After an early breakfast, you will head for an extended morning game drive in Amboseli National Park. The park emits the classic Hollywood images of Africa. Set in rolling savannah scenery, Amboseli National Park is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5896m (the highest free-standing mountain in the world). Against this magnificent backdrop roam vast herds of elephants accompanied by lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle hippo, and wildebeest. You will then exit the park and make a return journey back to Nairobi with your drop off the airport or hotel.
